Frequently asked questions
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. A JPG has already lost detail through compression. PNG stores it without further loss but cannot bring back what is gone, and PNG files are usually larger.
What happens to transparency when I convert PNG to JPG?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose (white by default).
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser using the Canvas API, so your photos stay on your device.
Which format should I choose?
Use PNG for graphics, logos and screenshots. Use JPG for photos when file size matters. WebP gives smaller files than both and is supported by all modern browsers.
Is there a size or file limit?
There is no fixed limit. Very large images (tens of megapixels) depend on your device's memory.
